AMBASSADORS
Ambassadors act as friendly facilitators of information and assistance during the festival. Our ambassadors have a visible presence at venues and festival sites warmly welcoming and actively engaging with visitors. Roles include greeting guests at performances and events, answering questions, and providing general information on festival activities. All Ambassadors must attend one mandatory training session in May/June 2012 (dates and times to be determined) in order to sign up for shifts.
TEAM LEADERS
Team Leaders work closely with the Luminato Volunteer staff to create an organized and fun volunteer experience. By supervising Ambassador volunteers and serving as an on-shift liaison to the Volunteer department, Team Leaders manage expectations and are the first ear for on-site problem solving.
FESTIVAL ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS (FAVs)
Festival Administrative Volunteers (FAVs) help with "behind the scenes" tasks at Luminato’s Volunteer Centre. Volunteers with excellent administrative and communication skills assist the Volunteer Department with scheduling and on-shift updates. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Do I need to have previous experience to volunteer with Luminato?
A: While some positions do require specific skills, our Luminato Ambassador role does not require any previous volunteer experience, we only require a passion for Toronto, the arts and your enthusiasm!
Q: Is there a minimum commitment of hours required to volunteer with Luminato?
A: Each volunteer role has different time requirements in terms of shift lengths, training and tasks being performed. More information on specific time commitments and required training for each role is located in the Volunteer Interests portion on the Activity Sign Up section when you register online. A: Unfortunately, not at this time. As many of the venues in the Luminato Festival are licensed venues serving alcohol, it is difficult to have individual volunteers under the legal drinking age working in these environments. In 2010, Luminato launched a pilot program for Youth Photographers to participate in the Festival. We also run programs and workshops through our Education & Outreach department that focus on young adults. For more information, please contact education@luminato.com.
Q: Do I get free tickets in exchange for my volunteer hours with Luminato?
A: Every volunteer program is unique in terms of the benefits they offer to their volunteers. As over 80% of our events in the Festival are free events and many of our events take place in smaller venues, we are unable to offer tickets in exchange for volunteer hours served. However, volunteering with Luminato provides many rewards. Our volunteers receive a volunteer t-shirt and hat, Vichy sunscreen and select last-minute ticket offers, as well as ticket offers to performances by our many arts partners throughout the year. Most importantly, our volunteers have told us the biggest reward they received was the ability to meet others and make a difference in our visitors' lives. Plus, you will have a lot of fun while volunteering! Additional 2012 volunteering benefits are still being determined.
Q: What are the steps required to become a Luminato Volunteer?
