Brigitte Haentjens, the incoming Artistic Director of French Theatre at the National Arts Centre, Tout Comme Elle (Just Like Her) became an artistic phenomenon when it debuted in Montreal in 2006.

Now Necessary Angel, one of Canada’s leading contemporary theatre companies, presents the English-language premiere, giving Toronto audiences the opportunity to experience Haentjens’ monumental theatrical exploration of the mother-daughter bond, the inevitability of loss, and the eternal nature of love.

Through different scenes of this piece, the audience will hear the voice of a daughter speak: of the relationship with her mother, of feeling unloved in her differences from the mother, of giving birth herself to a daughter, and of observing her own teenage daughter, who is… just like her. A universal pattern emerges, a great wheel turns. Yet individual humanity, of both mother and of daughter, is always present.
