ILLUMINATIONS Aboriginal Encounters
Questions about justice and identity, nationhood, aboriginal rights and the meaning of home.In 1967, Canada's centennial year, The Ecstasy of Rita Joe was one of the first works of art to raise crucial questions about the experience of our native peoples. A flowering of cultural expression among our First Nations artists has since brought those issues to worldwide attention, and now, more than 40 years later, the world premiere of Where the Blood Mixes takes a frank look at the state of things today.
Meet its playwright, Kevin Loring, as he and other internationally acclaimed aboriginal artists engage in dialogue with the audience. Paul Seesequasis moderates the panel, which also includes playwright Tomson Highway, novelist and teacher Joseph Boyden and Sandra Laronde, founder and Artistic Director of Red Sky Performance.
