Black Watch The city becomes the gallery, as outdoor art transforms Toronto.

AGO

Toronto becomes host to some of the best street artists, wall-painters and boundary-pushing multimedia creators, who will re-imagine the city's post-industrial waterfront, housing communities, and urban spaces in the midst of revitalization as monumental canvases. Large in scale, bold and beautiful in content, these transformed regions of Toronto will become an inspiring beacon for public creativity, as cutting-edge contemporary art bursts out of the galleries and onto the streets in a celebration of colour and light.

BUBBLEZ (Kedre Browne) and fellow artist PHADE (Jessey Pacho), are members of TRIBAL BRIDGES CREW  (Legal Graffiti) with the signature "Yet another BUBBLEZ and PHADE creation for the people". These youth continuously volunteer their time through community building initiatives educating youth about the advantages of Legal Graffiti.

STREETSCAPE AT SAM POLLOCK SQUARE, BROOKFIELD PLACE

43.646944°, -79.378611°→ by Jesse Bransford

As part of StreetScape, New York-based artist Jesse Bransford has taken an unconventional approach to street art, and produced a beautiful-yet-ephemeral addition to Sam Pollack Square at Brookfield Place that is as significant for what it conceals as it is for what it lays bare. Drawing on the iconographic history of cartography and satellite imagery as for the inspiration the work's stunning imagery, 43.646944°, -79.378611°→ also works in mysterious ways to interact with its viewers, challenging them question the distinctions between art's physical manifestation and its conceptual footprint. 43.646944°, -79.378611°→ may reside in Brookfield Place, but in truth it occupies and engages with the entire city.

STREETSCAPE AT REGENT PARK ‘LIVING SPACE'
LOCAL PROGRAMMING PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MANIFESTO COMMUNITY PROJECTS
JUNE 13-15 AT REGENT PARK

Drawing from partnerships in the local the community, five major components of Luminato's StreetScape exhibition will attempt to reflect the people and activities of Regent Park -- a diverse community and Canada's pioneering social housing project. The process-driven installations will aim to confer importance on the residents as individuals and to celebrate the life that makes up Regent Park as a community.

YOUTH WORKSHOP & MENTORSHIP SESSIONS
The heart of this production is an eight-week series of workshops and mentorship with fifteen youth drawn from Pathways to Education. Youth participants have been given the opportunity to learn about art interpretation and story-telling in preparation for becoming Streetscape tour guides during Luminato's final weekend. In concert, the youth are playing a hands-on role in the production of the art. For example, photographs from the May 3 Jamel Shabazz mentorship session are being painted into murals and used to inspire massive projections.

‘PROJECTION PORTRAITS'
Produced by Che Kothari and Ryan Patterson of Hightop Studio projections of portraits across multiple buildings will create narratives from the experiences of community members. These multi-channel narratives will be projected on a giant scale, creating dialogue between the buildings and celebratory echoes of community memory.

‘ART POSTERS'
Dan Bergeron is mentoring two youth as photographers while completing a work residency in Regent Park. During the mentorship the youth will also act as Dan's guides. The residency will result in large poster portraits of Regent Park residents.

‘URBAN BEAUTIFICATION SHOWCASE'
Four organizations engaged in urban beautification will showcase their top street and mural artists while providing interactive workshops for local youth. Participant organizations include Harbourfront Community Center GTP, Style in Progress, Them.ca and Seventh Generation Image Makers.

ORIENTATION CENTRE

Acting as the site hub, the Regent Park Focus space will be turned into an orientation centre with maps, a media / press centre, documentation of process and information about Regent Park Focus Youth Arts Media Centre. Programming also includes interactive audio tours, a special festival issue of Catch Da Flava and online videos that will be produced by participating youth.

TASK PARTY & VIDEO PREMIERE AT REGENT PARK

Acclaimed New York-based multi-media and performance artist Oliver Herring, in collaboration with a volunteer committee of local youth, will present the first Canadian TASK: a participatory-performance-art-making-party, to be held in the Regent Park Ice Rink from 3:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, June 14. A beautiful hybrid of performance art and communal celebration, TASK creates moments of chaos and utopia as participants use props, creative supplies, cooperation and imagination to interpret and perform randomly-selected, user-generated tasks. The TASK party is free and open to everyone-for more info visit: http://regenttask.blogspot.com/

In addition to his performance work, Herring is renowned for producing poetic and energetic videos that feature improvised performances by non-actors. Living Space will also feature the premier of a video shot by Oliver Herring on location at Regent Park starring young residents of the community, to be projected outdoors from June 13-15.

More information about Oliver Herring, including the interviews "Anarchy, Games and Performance" and "Collaborating with Strangers," are available on the website of the PBS art documentary series Art:21 [make link: http://www.pbs.org/art21/artists/herring/index.html
