Love can be both ardent and fleeting, both tender and violent, a source both of anguish and of solace. In Love Song Waltzes and New Love Song Waltzes, his two ravishing ballets set to Brahms' Liebesliederwalzer, op. 52 and Neue Liebesliederwalzer, op.65, master choreographer Mark Morris examines love in all its multitudinous aspects, both intimate and social. Accompanying the Liebeslieder Waltzes' Canadian premiere is Grand Duo, Morris' interpretation of Lou Harrison's Grand Duo for Violin and Piano, an epic spectacle ablaze with primal energy.
