Homeland
Laurie Anderson
“I walk accompanied by ghosts.”
Run Time: 90 min
Conceived as a single piece of music, Homeland is a series of songs and stories that paint a poetic and political portrait of contemporary American culture. Though they move through many worlds, from Greek tragedy to modern business and politics, they all address the current climate of fear and obsession with information and security that envelops the west. They are also - like all of Anderson's work - deeply personal and utterly unique.
Since 1980, when her hit single O Superman reached second place on the British pop charts, Anderson has been recognized around the world as one of today's premier performance artists. Known primarily for her multimedia presentations, she has cast herself in roles as varied as visual artist, composer, poet, photographer, filmmaker, electronics whiz, vocalist and instrumentalist.
Perhaps Laurie Anderson's most sonically sophisticated production to date, Homeland is a haunting tour de force of spoken word and music.
Commissioned by Luminato and The Barbican Centre, London; Cal Performances at UC Berkeley; Melbourne International Arts Festival; Society for the Performing Arts, Houston, Texas; and the University of Florida, Gainesville.
