About
David K. Pecaut, Co-Founder
Co-Founder
(1955-2009)
An accomplished civic leader and humanitarian, David Pecaut worked
tirelessly on initiatives designed to make our city a better place. His
passion for the arts, and dream of
bringing
Toronto a festival featuring the best artists Canada and the world have
to offer helped create Luminato. His tireless work and dedication to
excellence helped sustain it.
David was a Senior Partner in The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and
co-founder of the Canadian practice of BCG in Toronto in 1993. BCG is a
general management consulting firm with 61 offices around the
world focusing on issues of strategy, organization, and operational
effectiveness. David's client base spanned manufacturing, resources,
financial services, retail and high-tech businesses.
A well-known speaker and writer, David advised companies and governments
on public policy issues in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
He appeared as a speaker and commentator on CTV, CNN, CBC, CNBC, and
CBS, and was featured and quoted widely in newspaper and magazine
articles in publications ranging from the Wall Street Journal and
Business Week to the Globe and Mail and Maclean's. His articles have
appeared in publications from Time Magazine to the Harvard Business
Review.
David was also the voluntary Chair of the Toronto City Summit Alliance, a
diverse coalition of civic leaders whose mission is to accelerate
social and economic development in the Toronto region. The Alliance's
2003 report, Enough Talk, was a comprehensive action plan for much that
ails the region: from transportation, economic renewal and social
infrastructure to arts and culture. Since its publication, David helped
to mobilize the Toronto region to implement the plan through co-founding
the Toront03 Alliance that lead the tourism recovery post-SARS; the
Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council; the Toronto Region Research
Alliance; the Strong Neighbourhoods Task Force; the Task Force on
Modernizing Income Security for Working Age Adults; and Luminato.
David took his passion for the community and Canada to the national
level, founding and chairing the Canadian E Business Roundtable;
co-founding Career Edge, the national youth internship program; serving
on the Prime Minister's External Advisory Committee on Cities and
Communities; Co-Chairing the Conference Board Roundtable on
Commercialization; and serving on the Board of Canada Basketball.
David received a Master's in Philosophy from the University of Sussex,
England, and a BA magna cum laude from Harvard University.
David Pecaut was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in November 2009.
