In his massive sculptures built entirely from books, Tom Bendtsen has lent imposing visual form to the idea of the published text as part of a continuing conversation across time. His most recent work, however, subverts this same idea of interconnectedness.

The 15,000 books that make up Conversation #4 are arranged exclusively by colour and form, their spines serving as the component pixels of a large-scale image that breaks down as one approaches the work. The structure is thus at once visually cohesive yet also chaotic, with any possibility of connections between titles and topics left entirely to chance.
