Throw Down Your HeartFilm Screening and Discussion
Béla Fleck and Bassekou Kouyate, featured performers in this year’s Global Music: Rock the Casbah & An African Prom (see page 20), discuss their musical collaboration, whose reach extends from Nashville to Mali. Their conversation is preceded by a screening of Sascha Paladino’s documentary Throw Down Your Heart, which follows Fleck as he travels to Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, and the Gambia to explore the banjo’s African roots.

Hi Alpha,
Great point!!! To be totally honest, we moved around the THROW DOWN YOUR HEART screening a few times to sort out the availability of the artists. We were shifting it long after the schedule for THE LUMINATO REEL was set (we are treating them as separate events) and we hadn't even noticed the overlap until you pointed it out.
I guess sometimes when working on over 200 events, things like this happen.
I'm sorry that you won't be able to see both, but hopefully we'll have enough interested folks to fill both screenings.
All the best,
Mitchell

Why is this planned as the same time as the screening of 'Rivers of Sand'?
Unfortunate that two events on Malian music coincide, I'm very interested in both and can imagine I'm not the only one.
Great that there are so many events with Malian artists though.
