TonoRed Sky Performance - World Premiere
Featured as part of the cultural programming of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, this new dance creation brings together the Indigenous cultures of Canada, Mongolia and China.
Conceived, co-choreographed and directed by artistic director Sandra Laronde of Toronto-based Red Sky Performance, with co-choreography by Roger Sinha, this new dance and music creation explores the themes of shamanism and the majesty of the horse, bringing together the Indigenous cultures of Canada, China and Mongolia.
Inspired by Laronde's travels in Asia, this outstanding three-country project involves 11 dancers and award-winning Mongolian singers and musicians, enthralling the eye and the ear with a storyline about shamanism on both continents and a creature universally regarded as the epitome of strength, grace and beauty.
"Vividly and viscerally illustrates Laronde's discoveries of meeting points among Indigenous cultures." - Dance International
