Whether played with a metal pipe, the neck of a bottle, a battery or a spark-plug socket, it's one of the most distinctive sounds a guitar can make. From blues, rock, country, bluegrass and western swing to the traditional music of India and Hawaii, slide guitar speaks a multitude of musical tongues - all of them irresistible.

Derek Trucks, hailed by Rolling Stone as perhaps the best guitarist of his generation, heads a line-up that also includes renowned Quebecois singersongwriter, record producer and pedal steel artist Daniel Lanois, Louisiana wizard Sonny Landreth, joined by special guest Cindy Cashdollar from Austin, Texas; the lightning-fingered Jerry Douglas; Ontario's own Kevin Breit, with his ensemble FolkAlarm; the Campbell Brothers, exponents of the rare "sacred steel" style; Hawaiian kona specialist Don Rooke; and Debashish Bhattacharya, pioneer of Indian slide guitar - a diverse constellation of musicians united by their mastery of this uniquely expressive instrument.
