Gothic FictionPatrick McGrath | Sarah Langan | Monique Proulx

Gothic Fiction
90 mins, including Q&A

Be sure to attend the first opportunity in Canada to hear Patrick McGrath read from his new novel, Trauma - and join Sarah Langan and Monique Proulx to explore the fine line between the serene and the surreal.

This year, Luminato celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe, classic storyteller of psychological horror and the supernatural. Our series of Poe-inspired events includes this rare chance to be spellbound by three 21st-century masters of the genre.

Britain's Patrick McGrath, award-winning author of Asylum and Spider, gives Canada its first taste of his latest novel, Trauma, a psychological thriller set in 1970's Manhattan. Sarah Langan, author of The Missing (winner of the 2007 Bram Stoker Award) and The Keeper, explores the scary side of small-town America; and Quebec's own Monique Proulx, Governor-General Award nominated author of Wildlives, proves the Canadian countryside can be both beautiful and disturbing.  Hosted by by author and Globe and Mail columnist Russell Smith.

"As a master of modern Gothic, McGrath is unparalleled." - The Guardian

"A genuine creepfest that recalls, in the best way possible, the early work of Stephen King." - Publisher's Weekly (on Sarah Langan's The Missing)

"Monique Proulx has created a magical universe, spellbinding and hypnotizing. Her sumptuous prose confirms her unparalleled skill." - Le Quotidien
