Continuous CityThe Builders Association - Canadian Premiere
All the world really does become a stage in the Canadian premiere of an acclaimed new multi-media theatre experience that dissolves the boundaries between the local and the global.
Wherever we are in this networked world, we're also partly somewhere else - that's the premise of this latest project by New York's critically lauded The Builders Association. Co-commissioned by Luminato, Continuous City explores how travel and technology have changed our sense of place - and our connection to others.
A travelling businessman uses electronic media to keep in touch with his daughter, her nanny and his boss. Blending live performance with video shot in Toronto and other cities around the world, the project also incorporates a participatory website (www.xubu.cc) that expands its reach beyond the walls of any theatre - to encompass the wide world itself.
"...dazzling and unsettling...a provocative exploration of technology as a global force for connection and disconnection." - The San Francisco Chronicle
